Commemorating the leaping of the parapet by Benjamin Haywood on horse back in 1697. Both landed unhurt in the river twenty feet below. Haywood lived at nearby Bridge House. The Bridge was built in the 15th century at a time when travelling was both difficult and dangerous. Therefore the Chapel is for travellers to give thanks for their safe passage.
