About this image
The photographer's original caption for this picture reads: 'TOADS MOUTH ROCK, Derbyshire. Situated on Moorlands purchased by Sheffield Corporation Water Board, it forms a favourite view point to [sic] Sheffield & Manchester ramblers.'
The rock is situated beside the A625 (Sheffield Road), just west of the bridge spanning the Burbage Brook. The reference to Sheffield Corporation Water Board relates to purchase of part of the Duke of Rutland's Longshaw Estate in 1928, which helps date this view. The young lady complete with cloche hat and parasol is Emma Brindley, the photographer's daughter.
