About this image
Photograph taken from a painting or sketch of the tollbar cottage at Stonyridge (or Stony Ridge). This was located on the north side of Hathersage Road at its junction with Stony Ridge Road and was demolished at some date between the early 1920s and the mid-1930s, probably to allow road widening.
This view appears to have been made after the Sparrowpit Gate Turnpike (which linked Sheffield to Sparrowpit, near Chapel-en-le-Frith) was disturnpiked as no toll gate is visible, which suggests a date after 1880.
