About this image
A newish looking car (registration BHE 118 - issued by Barnsley County Borough Council from 1947) negotiates the waters of the Bentley Brook, near Bradbourne Mill. The road - Bent Lane - connects Bradbourne and Tissington and the ford is little changed today (2016).
This view is looking west towards Tissington and shows two depth gauges supplied by the AA (Automobile Association) for the benefit of motorists. Up on the hill in the background is Lea Hall.
The other car - parked up on the far side - carries the registration EWJ 808, issued by Sheffield County Borough Council from 1938. This may well belong to the photographer - Sheffield-based freelance photo journalist Frank Brindley. He may well have crossed the stream via a footbridge (out of shot on the right) in order to secure this shot.
Can anyone identify the make and model of the cars?
