About this image
The original caption pertaining to this view reads:
'EGG CLIMBING SEASON OPENS AGAIN. DOWN THE 400 feet deep cliffs of Bempton for Eggs.
Photo shows Mr Hartley of Bempton, who opened the collecting season, this week, and made a record basket of over 400 birds eggs the first day. Visitors and Bridlington guest houses buy them at 6 shillings [30p] per dozen.'
Although the photographer was Sheffield-based he took a number of photographs in the Bridlington area, no doubt when he was on holiday there. The stamp on the reverse of the original photographer reveals he was then Secretary of the Institute of British Photographers.
