About this image
The photographer's original caption for this view reads:
'DANGEROUS CLIMBING, so Authorities say, owing to lack of proper shoes, clothing and ropes. Photo shows where this class of risky climbing is done every weekend in Derbyshire. FROGGATT EDGE.
Photo shows the famous climbers - W Ward and E Pursehouse, of Sheffield illustrate the sport, as done by hundreds of amateurs every weekend, and using ordinary clothing and shoes.'
Despite the location being given as Froggatt Edge, the geology looks to be limestone rather than millstone grit, so the location is more likely to be Winnats Pass at Castleton.
