About this image
The photographer left no record of where this well dressing was located and the general form of the structure features in a number of different Derbyshire villages, including Tideswell (which this is not as the 1952 theme there was not as shown - see PTPD300130), Eyam, and Stoney Middleton (amongst others). The only clue is what appears to be a ruined building dimly visible in the left background, although additionally the centre panel can be seen being made in PTPD300135.
The biblical theme 'The Coat of Many Colours' is from Genesis 37:3: 'Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colours' (King James Version; it should be noted the accuracy of the translation is disputed).
