About this image
This view appears to have been taken looking east in woodland alongside Hathersage Road (the A625) at Blacka Moor.
The photographer titled the picture '"Fairyland" drawn by Jack Frost', adding 'Snaps taken on the lonely moorlands of Fox House, only seven miles from Sheffield, where about 6 inches of snow fell, last week, when photos were taken, in Derbyshire. (photographer had his fingers nearly frozen, taken the snaps).' The original print is further annotated 'Passed by Censor. But, Not to be used before Dec 4/43.'
Although actually in the West Riding of Yorkshire at the date of this photo, the county boundary with Derbyshire is only a short distance to the rear of where the photographer is standing.
