Born 1882 in Derby, in 1906 he married Mary Dickin, the daughter of Arthur Dickin who ran a grocers shop on Princes street, Derby. By 1911 the couple had began a family and had moved to the Netherfield area of Nottingham, where Snow worked as a railway engine fitter.
