Open-air School, Stonebroom
Ms A.P.Y Gallon
About this image
A view of Stonebroom School, one of the 'open air' schools built to replace the brick and high windowed, pre-first world war schools. As shown, the large windows could be folded back to admit maximum fresh air and sunshine and give access to the school garden - a great improvement for children of over crowded industrial communities. The teacher in the striped dress is Ruby Haston.
