Belper Mill Gangway over Bridge Foot
c 1910's ?
About this image
Looking through the Gangway from the Triangle. The Gangway links Strutt's Mills and has an unusual feature of gun loopholes (which cannot be seen here because of the ivy). The gun loopholes were added to the Gangway in 1810, so that the local militia could defend the mill complex from attacks from Luddites! Fortunately, no attack materialised and the loopholes were never used. Note the drinking fountain on the left side of the archway.
