Alfreton Hall was built for George Morewood in 1724 by Francis Smith of Warwick. The Palmer Morewood family lived at the Hall until 1957. The Hall was sold to Derbyshire County Council for £28,000 pounds. The west wing suffered subsidence caused by severe coal mining and was demolished, it originally held the hall's ballroom and 25 other rooms.
