About this image
The old Sheepwash bridge is a narrow packhorse bridge, over the River Wye, dating from the 17th century. There is also an old stone enclosure which was used as a pen for holding sheep prior to being dipped (washed) in the river. This bridge is on an ancient trackway known as The Portway and it is recorded that, at the end of the 17th century, 300 packhorses loaded with malt passed through each week
