About this image
Looking from the Heights of Jacob (just south and on the same ridge as the Heights of Abraham) from the Upperwood Road area. Looking over towards Riber Castle. The River Derwent and the present A6 can be seen on the bottom right side of the picture. The Jubilee bridge can just be seen on the river. It was an iron bridge of 85 feet span and was constructed in 1887 for the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria, at a cost of £230, connecting the promenade with Lovers' Walk, and at the same time the Promenade was laid out at a cost of £700. A gasometer and works can be seen in the centre of the picture, the station is to the right of this.
