About this image
This is a view looking East from the tower of St Helen's Church, showing Smithfield Avenue (left-centre) and the end of Derbyshire Avenue (right). From left to right the names of the tenants in the houses on Derbyshire Avenue were Ledgers, Wilsons, Blounts, Horsefields, Thompsons, Dolbys and Hattos, all of whom occupied the houses when they were new. Also shown is the M1 motorway running, left to right, from north east to south west. Since this photograph was taken some old people's bungalows have been built in the field pictured. The field was owned or rented by the Harvey family who used to sell logs and fire wood from their horse drawn cart around the village. The Harveys lived in the house next to the church on Nottingham road.
