About this image
Provision for a public house was included in the original layout of the post World War 2 estate in January 1959. The Home Brewery Co. acquired the site, development to be conditional on the surrender of the licence of the 'Nottingham Castle' on Cotmanhay Road. Builders F Perks & Son Ltd., of Long Eaton took possession of the site in September 1959. The pub was opened by Councillor Leslie Chambers, Mayor of Ilkeston, on the morning of Monday 10 October 1960. It was the first licensed premises serving a growing estate of some 1400 houses. The first licensee was William Sumner, previously of the 'Petersham Hotel', Long Eaton.
