About this image
The Station had been closed by the time of this photograph (which did not have a given date), note the weeds on the platform. It was closed on 4 March 1963 as part of the national railway 'Beeching cuts'. (Dr Richard Beeching, as chairman of British Rail, cut 5,000 miles of line and closed stations and depots all over the country). Other smaller stations on the ex-Great Central main line were closed at the same time, such as Chesterfield Central, Killamarsh Central and Renishaw Central.
