Member of the Girls Friendly Society marching along Chesterfield Road, Staveley. They are possibly celebrating the end of World War II in Europe. On 7th May 1945 General Jodl signed an unconditional surrender at Reims. However, the Second World War continued until the Japanese Army surrendered on 2 September 1945.
