About this image
I believe the suited gentleman on the left of the picture to be the proprietor of the Beehive stores. He was a Mark Robinson, born in Bulwell in 1870. He was a well-known businessman in the Shirebrook area and became wealthy and successful, owning several shops. Mark never married, but lived with his sister, Annie Robinson, who was his housekeeper. Mark died in Shirebrook in 1934, aged 64 years. The businesses were then sold. (Information supplied by Jane Sudborough, who was a neice of Mark Robinson's).
Showing a window display of Altona and Malton tonic wine, and a picture of King George V. The shop is decorated with flags, presumably for the Kings coronation ceremony of 1911. Later the 'Beehive Supply Co' housed the 'Beehive Second Hand Bookshop' and 'Internet Cafe' (see DCBR000410).
