About this image
This view appears to have been taken on the same occasion as DCBM100614 and is therefore presumed to show an event marking May Day. Given the prominence of children (apparently sporting competition numbers) with dogs, it may depict some sort of training or obedience trials.
The location is an area of parkland that lay to the east of Station Approach and to the north of Spring Gardens, a site later occupied by the Spring Gardens Shopping Centre.
In the background of this view, which is looking north, is the southern trainshed (dating from 1886) of the Midland Railway's Buxton station, terminus of the branch from Miller's Dale on the Derby-Manchester main line. The station closed in 1967 and was then demolished.
