About this image
The New Inn was located at the junction of Oxford Street and New Street. New Street was the short street between Oxford Street and Grosvenor Road, named after the pub. The boy on the left was one of the Brown brothers, who later had a watch and clock business in Oxford Street. The Inn was kept by Mr and Mrs William Saxton. A newspaper article in 1980 reported that Shipstone's had no record of a public house of theirs on this site! The building later became Priestley's electrical shop (see DCAV000907)
