About this image
A Huge quarried(?) stone of millstone Grit popular with novice climbers. It would appear that the sun for midwinter solstice, when viewed from the Wirksworth Standing Stone, appears on the part of the Alport Heights where Alport Stone protrudes, and which some suggest is an alignment. (This suggestion sounds feasible, as the area abounds with other megalithic stones).
